To date, the Federal Laws have no specific policies for employee bereavement. Bereavement Laws are only specific to the company where you work for. The company’s human resource personnel usually take in charge of creating the Bereavement Laws that must be equitable to both the employee and employer. Almost all companies here in the United States recognize the emotional impact of the employee over the loss of a loved one and therefore allow them to take their time off from work in order to take care of this important family responsibility. Although legally, employees are not entitled for such a leave, the business sector have deemed as an important activity for the welfare of their employees.

Bereavement Laws may vary from different types of employers. Some can allow three to five days of leave with pay. In addition to this absence with pay, the supervisor and the human resource personnel should talk to the employee. Just what are the important point of views that should be considered in granting bereavement leave to an employee? The first is the recognition that each of their employees has their own families and must support them with their respective roles in their families. Second is that due consideration should be given to the employee due to the fact that the loss of a loved one can have an emotional impact on the part of their employees and might affect their performance in the workplace. The third is that to allow the employee to arrange the funerals or last will testaments of their loved ones who have recently passed away.
