LIVING UNDER LAW
30th January 2012 by Bereaved No CommentsShould a Christian hold the legislation of Moses from the Old Covenant in addition to the legislation of Christ from the New Covenant? Is there an essential difference between those two laws? Are there on the similar time more than one covenantal set of legal guidelines energetic and binding on the believer at one time? Or is there just one physique of regulation for every covenant?
The Old Covenant legislation was only in authority when the Old Covenant was active. As soon as the New Covenant became energetic and the Previous Covenant light in the course of the first century, then the one regulation that is still is the New Covenant law. How then do we live beneath this New Covenant legislation?
What I consider the scripture to teach is that the Previous Covenant law because it was in drive in the OLD COVENANT has been abolished because the covenant that it came with has been abolished. Read the passage in Hebrews 7:12
“For the priesthood being modified, there is product of necessity a change also of the law.”
Right here God says that if the priesthood modified, then the legislation also must change. There is only one law at a time. The problem most people have is with the scripture that clearly and plainly teaches that the New Covenant legislation has replaced the Old Covenant law.
Romans 14 says that “In any way is NOT of FAITH IT IS SIN”. The New Covenant definition of sin, given by the apostle Paul beneath inspiration of the Spirit of God is that sin is defined by what is just not of FAITH. Sin will not be a violation of Mosaic Law. We must acknowledge the supremacy of Faith over legislation in the New Covenant.
I’m not advocating sanctification by protecting the old law. There isn’t any sanctification within the performance of any law. Until that efficiency is the perfect efficiency of Christ and the credit for that efficiency is imputed or accounted to our credit.
Let me cite you the phrases of Jesus from Matthew chapter 5 where he appears to be educating that the ethical precepts that he (Jesus) introduced into the New Covenant are superior to what Moses left the nation of Israel in the Previous Covenant.
Ye have heard that it was stated by them of old time, (Moses) Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be at risk of the judgment:
However I say unto you, That whosoever is indignant together with his brother and not using a trigger shall be in peril of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in peril of the council: however whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
Ye have heard that it was stated by them of old time, (Moses) Thou shalt not commit adultery:
However I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery together with her already in his heart.
It hath been mentioned, (by Moses) Whosoever shall put away his spouse, let him give her a writing of divorcement:
However I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his spouse, saving for the reason for fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that’s divorced committeth adultery.
Once more, ye have heard that it hath been mentioned by them of old time, (Moses) Thou shalt not forswear thyself, however shalt carry out unto the Lord thine oaths:
But I say unto you, Swear in no way; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne:
Ye have heard that it hath been said, (by Moses) A watch for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
However I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy proper cheek, turn to him the opposite also.
And if any man will sue thee on the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.
And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go together with him twain.
Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that might borrow of thee flip not thou away.
Ye have heard that it hath been mentioned, (by Moses, do you see the pattern here?) Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
That ye will be the youngsters of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the great, and sendeth rain on the simply and on the unjust.
For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the identical?
And if ye salute your brethren solely, what do ye greater than others? don’t even the publicans so?
You have got heard it mentioned by them of previous (MOSES)…BUT I SAY UNTO YOU. That is the language of tremendous cession or of contradiction. Jesus is clearly saying that what Moses stated was fine…but I am supplying you with something BETTER…keep in mind that in the new covenant we’ve a BETTER high priest, a BETTER king, we even have a BETTER legislation giver, mediator, prophet. These are the roles that Moses fulfilled within the Outdated Covenant that Jesus is the success of the type that Moses was intending. WE HAVE A GREATER THAN MOSES in Jesus Christ. The law that got here by means of the mediator of a BETTER covenant is a BETTER law established on BETTER promises. This concept is clearly taught in Hebrews, and right here within the Sermon on the Mount Matthew chapter 5 Jesus is illustrating the principle with no apology. Here’s what Moses said…BUT I SAY UNTO YOU! Jesus modified the law from Mount Sinai and gave a higher regulation from The sermon on the MOUNT.
Some people claim that God’s moral precepts have all the time been the identical before the legislation, through the regulation and after the Law of Moses”. That is simply WRONG!!! I have just proven the phrases of Christ which clearly and “Simply” show that the other is true.
Are Murder and adultery nonetheless murder and adultery?
Absolutely!
But I don’t refrain from them as a result of I’m below the Outdated Covenant Ten Commandments. The bible says that he who violated Moses law would die the death. The punishment below the outdated covenant for homicide and adultery was being stoned to death. This doesn’t apply in the New Covenant. There is no such thing as a command enjoined on the New Covenant church to STONE adulterers, murderers, Sabbath breakers etc. When you remove the penalty of a legislation, that legislation is NO LONGER IN FORCE.
—So then why would I not homicide?
—Why would I chorus from Adultery?
VERY GOOD QUESTIONS…I am glad you asked.
The reply may be very simple and Jesus gave it within the sermon on the mount, it’s as a result of I have a NEW HEART. The regulation of the Spirit of God, the regulation of liberty is written on my heart. If the Holy Spirit would lead and guide a person to commit adultery…then properly and good…but such would be impossible. The Holy Spirit would never lead me to do such things, and since I’m led by God’s Spirit, I want no regulation to tell me “NO”. I’m restrained by LOVE is what Paul teaches. “The love of Christ constrains me”.
If I do know of a brother in the Lord who is committing adultery on his spouse, I will never pull out the Regulation of Moses and hit them over the pinnacle with it…because it has NO AUTHORITY. I might merely in love go to my brother and ask him…”Brother is that this what God by way of his Spirit is convicting you is true to do?” They’ve two options at that point, yield to the conviction of the Holy Spirit and repent, for all of God’s youngsters who have the Spirit might be convicted by that very same Spirit. If they say…”sure, this life-style of fornication is what I would like and I’m going to proceed in my adultery”. Then I’ve the authority of scripture to declare that this man isn’t in Christ, is just not a believer and has no inheritance in the kingdom of God. The bible may be very clear about this teaching. That is why we’ve the church self-discipline procedures outlined for us in Matthew 18 and Galatians 6, and Hebrews 12-13. Repentance is the evidence of salvation, rejection of biblical admonition is proof of the fact that the Spirit of God is just not dwelling in him, and if he has not the Spirit of God, he is none of His.
Re-read Matthew 7, I’m not commanded to not homicide, to not commit adultery…I am commanded and led by the Spirit to NOT LOOK on a girl to lust. I’m commanded to NOT HATE my brother. If I obey by means of the Spirit the admonition of Christ to NOT HATE MY BROTHER…will I ever kill him?
If I like my brother, thoughts of homicide can never take maintain in me, and I will never commit murder…and I can achieve that without the mosaic commandment.
Same with adultery, if in my heart, I chorus from lust, then with what motivation do I lay with other woman than my wife. It is inconceivable that a law could better restrain me than the Spirit dwelling in me convincing and convicting me.
Why would I ever return to residing beneath a system (outward commands and law) that would never ship me from sin, when I’ve the residing God dwelling in me to deliver me from all method of sin and evil?
I pity any who think that by conserving instructions that they’re someway pleasing God…they are NOT. I pity any who suppose that they will overcome the world the flesh or sin in any of its varieties, by regulation maintaining and duty. The New Testomony clearly teaches that this way of thinking is ridiculous and futile. Please cite for me a passage of scripture that elevates legislation over the ministry of God’s Spirit and I’ll go back under law today. However you had BETTER give me a passage of scripture for me to make that decision. If not, you will not get me inside 10 miles of a life led by law.
Do not worry about my freedom. No particular person has the power to violate it. Paul in Galatians 5 tells me that I’m to STAND within the liberty whereby Christ has made me free and to not be entangled once more within the yoke of bondage. No one can take it from me no one can violate it without my consent. It is my inheritance in Christ and I’ll preserve a good hold on it. It isn’t for anybody to take, however it’s mine to surrender. But be assured I’m nowhere close to the place the place I would surrender it. Until someone can present me one thing better…which I’m very suspicious that they cannot.
This doctrine of liberty is for all believers within the New Covenant. To start with it’s Christ’s doctrine taught by Him and His Apostles, I did not originate it. Secondly, I’m not out to prove it, I’m out to reside it. I needn’t show anything to anyone. However God by His Spirit has called me to stay this lifetime of freedom.
But I so really feel compelled to offer it to those who are nonetheless in bondage to the Outdated Covenant way of living, and to these whom I provide it, I don’t search to show it to them either. For if the Spirit of God does not give them a style for freedom and a want to be free from bondage, then I’m not going to attempt to overpower God’s Spirit. But when they truly have the Spirit of God, they’ll yearn for this freedom and wild horses will not hold them from it.
So I provide it, and plenty of eat…and yet many scoff. I’m not liable for the scoffers, nor do I take credit for many who partake and are liberated…but I do get to stroll with those who are liberated as true brothers.
I consider that we should reason from the scripture. If there’s a scriptural precept I am missing, assist me out, point it out.
But if I had been to have it my means, (the way in which of my flesh) I’d nonetheless be where I used to be 15 years ago, below bondage to the Old Covenant with solely a trail of destroyed relationships and a futile life behind me. Having it my way…I hope not…I hope to have it God’s method as His Holy Spirit leads and guides. For there’s really NO OTHER WAY.
